9 ABOVE & FACING PAGE TOP RIGHT: The master bedroom is an oasis for the owners. Surrounded by windows that face into the forested escarpment, the space enjoys both a beautiful view and complete privacy. Formerly a smaller dove-tailed log cabin, the home was expanded and updated to align with the owners' wish for a more contemporary feel. Part of the extension includes the new master suite. The master bathroom features a floating tub and sitting area that is a spa like extension of the bedroom, while the steam shower, vanities, and toilet areas are tucked away for privacy. The natural-stain pine log exterior fa├žades were stained a dark gray and punctuated with bright red framed windows to give the home its modern presence. The owners can access the custom hot tub, complete with a waterfall feature, from the master suite. RIGHT, FACING PAGE TOP LEFT & FACING PAGE BOTTOM: In the old floorplan, the master bedroom was upstairs, over the living room. In the renovation, this part of the second story was removed to create a cathedral ceiling living room. Natural light floods the space through tall window walls and dormers. Naturally-finished wood trusses, log walls, and the stone fireplace ensure a warm and cozy feeling for the interiors. Burnished steel details on the fireplace, light coves, and floating stairs add a bit of edginess to the design. Colored and heated concrete floors throughout are accented by colorful area rugs, artwork and furniture. Photographs by Clay Dolan A r c h i t e c t u r e
