297 Maria Ogrydziak, AIA, founder of Maria Ogrydziak Architecture, is nationally known for her valley-inspired work and her design and policy leadership. Her bold, custom homes along with her retail and worship spaces build on 30 years in the laboratory of the California landscape. She draws from a range of inspiration including the culture of identity, the character of materials, and the region's distinct characteristics to create architecture that upliftingly transforms the everyday experience. Inspired geometries, light-filled interiors, and strong connections to the land are common threads woven throughout her structures, which often incorporate the latest green technologies as well. Since founding her firm in 1985, Maria has designed more than 400 projects in California. Prime examples of her architectural style can be found in custom homes such as the downtown Edge Loft artist studio; the Kayak House on the American River; the Flow House in the hills of Solano; and the Flight House surrounded by agricultural fields in Yolo County. Her retail projects include the multi-award-winning Davis Food Co-Op and Tower Records store, the Avid Reader family of independent bookstores, Newsbeat, Café Roma, and Mishka's Café. Her approach to identity and inspirational spaces has also led to numerous spiritual projects. One of her latest projects, the Glass House, is a 15,000-square-foot luxury, rural homestead with innovative green technologies and bespoke details.
